Pavel Alexandrovich Sofronitsky ( August 26, 1910 , Kazan - July 13, 1997 , Perm ) - Soviet oil geologist , tectonist , stratigraph . Doctor of Sciences, Professor , Honored Geologist of the RSFSR , Honorary Oil Worker of the RSFSR. Pioneer of several oil and gas fields in the Urals [1] .

Born in 1910 in Kazan. In 1932 he graduated from Kazan University with a degree in geology [2] .
He began his career as a collector of a geological survey party involved in the study of the territories of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the Sura river basin and the Perm region . By 1941, he rose to the post of geologist.
In 1941 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . He took part in the war against Japan.
In 1946, he returned to work as a geologist in the Perm Geological Exploration Office, which after the reorganization became known as the Permneft Association . He took part in the compilation of geological and structural-geological maps of the Perm and Kirov regions , as well as Udmurtia and the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic [3] .
As a leader, he took a direct part in the discovery of the Polazninsky, Lobanovsky, Tanypsky, Kuedinsky, Gozhansky, Yarino-Kamennolozhsky, Kozubaevsky, Pavlovsky and Shalashninsky oil fields in the Perm region and Kiengop - in Udmurtia [1] .
Since 1949 he began to give lectures on geology at Perm University . In 1952 he headed the department of historical geology, and headed the department in 1981. In 1962, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, a little later the title of professor .
He is the author of 120 scientific papers (among them co-authored the fundamental monographs “Geological Structure of the USSR” and “Geology of the Urals”) [3] .
Thanks to his perseverance in the issue of prospecting in the Ufa-Solikamsk Depression , 35 oil, 2 gas and oil and 9 gas fields were discovered. One of the oil fields in the Chernushensky district of the Perm Territory bears his name [3] .
He was marked by a number of state awards, including the Order of the Red Star and World War II , 10 medals for participation in the Great Patriotic War, and the medal "A Century of the Oil and Gas Industry of the USSR." He has the titles: “Honorary Oil Worker” (1979), “ Honored Geologist of the RSFSR ” (1980) [4] .
Died July 13, 1997.
