The early years

Glen Crowe's grandfather's cousin, Liam Crowe, played football for the Irish army team, including the match on April 23, 1944, against the main national team of Ireland. Liam Crowe played for the Shamrock Rovers and won the 1944 Ireland Cup. He also played for Shelburne, St. Patricks Athletic , Dundalk , and St. James Gate .

Crowe started playing football at the age of seven on the local Irish Sent Mochtaz team. For several years, Stella Maris showed interest in him and, in the end, signed a contract with Crowe, he played in the Dublin School League [3] .

Club career

England

At the age of 17, Crow went to see the English Wolverhampton Wanderers and went through three separate gatherings with the club before being offered a one-year youth contract. He spent most of his first season with the “wolves” in the youth team. On April 30, 1996 he made his debut on a professional level, having replaced his match against Reading , his team lost 3-0. In the next match, the final game of the 1995/96 season, Crowe first came out at the base of the “wolves” for the match against Charlton Athletic and scored the only goal of his team, the rivals scored a draw 1: 1. He also spoke on loan for Cardiff City and Exeter City , and also spent another season at Plymouth Argyle .

Bohemians and Shelbourne

Before the 1999 season, Crowe returned to Dublin and joined the Bohemians coached by Roddy Collins.

On September 19, 1999, in his debut match in the League of Ireland, Crowe scored a goal for Shamrock Rovers, but his team lost 3-1 [4] . In the end, Crowe became the Bohemians top scorer in his first season at the club with nine league goals. The following season, 2000/01, Crowe formed an effective partnership with team rookie Trevor Molloy and broke the championship goal record for the season, reaching 25 goals (35 in all competitions). Bohemians have won their first world title since 1978 and made their first gold double since 1928. He also scored in the UEFA Cup , both in the home and away match against the Kaiserslautern . Thanks to Crow's good form, in the summer of 2001, Mick McCarthy challenged him to the national team for the World Cup qualifiers against Portugal and Estonia .

In 2003, Crowe helped Bohemians win the second league title in three years, but left the team in December 2004, moving to Shelburne. There he successfully played with Jason Byrne . In November 2006, he won his third league title. It is noteworthy that he scored the winning goal in the match against his former Bohemians club. For Shelburne, this was the third league title in four seasons.

Crowe rejoined the Bohemians in early 2007, where he continued to demonstrate his scoring skills. On April 4, 2008, he broke Turlow O'Connor's previous record for goals in the Major Leagues, scoring the 121st goal in the match against Shamrock Rovers [5] . Bohemians won the 2008 championship, 19 points ahead of their closest rivals St. Patricks Athletic. Crowe also scored in the final of the Cup of Ireland, “Bohemians” won the trophy, having issued a “golden double” [6] . He also scored against Rila in the Intertoto Cup 2008 [7] .

Crowe lost his form during the 2009 season and often began to drop out of the starting lineup when Paddy Madden returned from rental at Shelburne. However, in September, Crowe won his first League Cup medal when the Bohemians beat Waterford United 3-1 in the finals [8] . In November, Crowe became the five-time champion of Ireland [9] .

Sporting Fingal

In November 2009, Crowe left Bohemians after his contract expired. In January 2010, he signed a contract with Sporting Fingal ahead of the club’s first season in the Irish Championship [10] .

Crowe scored his 11th goal in European competition in a match against Maritimo in the Europa League 2010/11 . This is a record for players of Irish clubs [11] .

International Career

Crowe played for the youthful national team of Ireland in the final of the UEFA European Under-18 Championship and was part of the youth team at the 1997 World Cup in Malaysia . Due to weather problems - high humidity, Crow and his team trained in raincoats for a week at the sports complex of Limerick University to prepare for the tournament [3] . Ireland finished third after winning the bronze match with Ghana .

In November 2002, Crowe became the first player in the League of Ireland in the last 16 years to be drafted into the national team of Ireland (the last was Pat Byrne from Shamrock Rovers). Coach Don Givens challenged him to a friendly match against Greece [12] . He played his second match for Ireland in April 2003, substituting in a friendly match against Norway at Lansdowne Road .
