Avdeev, Vladimir Borisovich

Born in the USSR in 1962 in the city ​​of Nizhny Tagil ( Sverdlovsk Region ) in the family of a military man. In 1985 he graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute . After serving in the Soviet Army ( as an Air Force officer in the Trans-Baikal Military District ), he worked for some time at a closed enterprise of the defense complex, then until 1991 - at the Ministry of Culture and the All-Russian Culture Fund ^[1] .

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he tried to make a writing career and published a number of works of art in the style of European intellectual prose (novels “The Prosthetist”, 1990; “Passion for Gabriel”, 1992). In 1989 he was recommended to the Union of Writers of the USSR , since 1993 - a member of the Union of Writers of Russia . Since the mid 90's. carried away by neopaganism ("Overcoming Christianity", 1994) and racial theory , which gave the name "racology". Since 1997 , for several years he was the host of the Archive of Racial Politics column of the newspaper For Russian Affairs ^[2] . In 1999, he founded a series of books, The Library of Racial Thought, published by Bely Alvy publishing house, in which he publishes the works of Russian racial theorists and classics of Western racial theory. In 2000, to promote his ideas, he founded together with A. M. Ivanov (Skuratov) and P. V. Tulaev the “Russian international magazine” “ Athenaeum ”, the editorial board of which consisted of all the years of its existence ^[3] . Prior to this, he participated in the publication of the Moscow “journal of the right perspective” “Heritage of the Ancestors” ^[4] . Consists of editorial boards of various publications, mainly of a racist and nationalist orientation. A member of the board of coordinators of the Moscow Slavic pagan community A. Belova ^[5] , a member of the club of the Slavic-Goritsky struggle .

The most famous work of Avdeev - the book "Rasology", promoting racial concepts. The term "racology", according to Avdeev, is a generalized tracing-paper from the German terms Rassenlehre ( racial theory ), Rassenkunde (racial science), Rassenforschung (racial research), Rassengedanke (racial thinking). According to Avdeev, racology is a universal science that explains, based on the racial characteristics of individuals, their social, political, cultural, religious, sexual, and other behavior ^{[6] [7]} . Avdeev sees the difference between racology and anthropology in that it not only ascertains the presence and difference of races, but builds their hierarchy and serves as a justification for interracial struggle: “The anthropologist ascertains the fact of racial differences (...) the racologist, on the contrary, evaluates them, creates from they have a hierarchy in importance in order to teach their fellow tribesmen to use them to advantage in the struggle for existence only for representatives of their race. Racology as a science is not afraid to give a direct answer to the two most insidious traditional questions: “Who is to blame?” And “What to do?” ” Therefore, the main task of racology is “ to establish a logical relationship between the quality of human material and its historical manifestations ” ^[7] .

Avdeev’s book is mainly based on quotes from authors of the late XIX - early XX centuries. Avdeev generally reproduces the provisions of the German anthropological school of the 30s.

Avdeev supplements these postulates with his own idea of ​​a racial hierarchy even within one nation, where he distinguishes a creative "racial core" and a low-value "racial periphery": "each historically significant people has one racial basis, one racial core, with the help of which it dictates its own" the rules of the game "of the racial periphery, that is, racial-unclean hybrids" ^[8] .

In 2005, a forensic medic and criminal sexologist , head of the department of forensic medicine and law of the Northern State Medical University , doctor of medical sciences, professor G. B. Deryagin in his review noted that the encyclopedic review, which was made by V. B. In the spring of 2006, Book Business magazine named the first edition of Vladimir Avdeev’s Rasology “an absolute bestseller” in the nomination “Philosophy, Political Science, Esotericism ” ^[10] . At the same time, in reviews of the book by professional anthropologists and biologists, along with the merits of the book, its debatable nature and the presence of erroneous statements are noted ^{[11] [12]} .

Critical

The appearance on the book market of the racological publications of Avdeev and his associates caused a letter of protest, signed by experts in the fields of biology, anthropology, ethnography and history - T. I. Alekseeva , E. V. Balanovskaya , E. I. Balakhonova , T. S. Balueva , S. V. Vasiliev , M. M. Gerasimova , N. A. Dubova , S. G. Efimova , A. A. Zubov , D. V. Pezhemsky , G. L. Khit , V. M. Kharitonov , T K. Khojayov . The authors of the letter characterize these publications as “ pseudoscientific and speculative literature ” and express confidence that “ modern Russian anthropology has powerful scientific potential to withstand the onslaught of xenophobia ” ^[13] . The historian and ethnographer V. A. Shnirelman characterizes Avdeev’s approach as “ aggressive amateurism ” ^[8] .

Avdeev’s companion in the magazine Athenaeum A. Ivanov criticized Avdeev’s views in his article “Look at the Skulls!” ^[14] .

The book "Race and Ethnicity", written by Avdeev in collaboration with A. N. Sevastyanov (M., 2007), was subjected to scientific examination. The expert report signed by the head of the anthropology department of the N. N. Miklukho-Maklai Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences , doctor of historical sciences S. V. Vasiliev , points to the " primeval ignorance " of the authors and their " shameless parasitism on science ." The book, according to the expert, "is filled with highly laudatory characteristics of the Nordic race and arguments about its innate superiority over all other races ... The book is replete with the derogatory characteristics of other human races and peoples, evidence of their inferiority, innate depravity and even animality ." “The statements contained in the book objectively form and reinforce in the reader’s mind highly negative stereotypes regarding other races and ethnic groups. By inciting hatred, they can greatly affect the formation of mass consciousness and serve as the basis for ultra-radical nationalist aspirations, since they directly and openly justify the legitimacy of violence in interracial and interethnic relations ” ^[15] .

The ideas expressed in Avdeev’s books were criticized by other domestic anthropological scientists: doctor of historical sciences, professor, head. M. L. Aksyanova ^[16] .

Anthropologist and archaeologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor L. T. Yablonsky in an interview with Polit.ru noted ^[17] :

So, if someone tells you, I will count, I will not invent, as some Mr. Avdeev wrote. I quote, this is published in his book: “ We thus recognize that an ethnic group is a biological phenomenon like a race, a fragment, or even a chip, which it is in its pure or mixed form. Race and ethnicity are correlated as a species and variety , a breed in zoology and botany . ” So as soon as a person tells you such a thing or something like that, you can safely classify him as a racist , as in this case. Here I read out the following statement, published in a book that is sold, it crammed the entire Internet: “The Russian Empire , like great Russia , was founded by the Great Russian tribe, which due to its hereditarily determined racial characteristics, the process and the order of overgrowing of cranial sutures occurs according to the model peculiar to the higher race, while the model prevailing among the foreigners of Russia allows one to attribute them mainly to the lower races . ” Is funny [...] I just wanted to say that Mr. Avdeev is not a specialist, he has no education whatsoever in order to talk about races. And if he opened a couple of books and decided that he needed to write the same thing, only exactly the opposite, then this does not mean that he is an expert.

V. A. Shnirelman notes that the quotes used by Avdeev of other authors are distorted and selected arbitrarily to confirm his own views ^[8] .

Candidate of Philosophy A.V. Puchkov in his dissertation “Neopaganism in Modern European Culture: Using the Example of Racial Theories” notes that Avdeev and several other authors “ reproduce the main neopagan components of classical racial theory ”, namely, the rejection of monotheism and Christianity , a sentence " Return to the racial, natural foundations of humanity ." In April 2011, the Ordzhonikidze District Court of Yekaterinburg, on the recommendation of the prosecutor of the Ordzhonikidze District of Yekaterinburg, recognized the materials of Vladimir Avdeev’s book “Rasology. The science of the hereditary qualities of people. " In the definition of the Prosecutor's Office, the book is characterized as follows:

“Avdeev sees the goal of racology in“ recognizing and neutralizing alien influences ”on his race, defending the idea of ​​the dangers of racial mixing. Reaction to criticism

In the preface to the collection “Russian Racial Theory. Issue 2 ”V. B. Avdeev reacted to the collective letter of scientists in the following words ^[20] :

The article “Relapses of Chauvinism and Racial Intolerance” ( Nature , No. 6, 2004), written as a “letter to the editor” of this journal signed by fourteen leading figures of Russian science who spent a quarter of the useful volume of the article not for scientific analysis, can serve as a genuine pearl of “scientific criticism” , and on the list of their own regalia. <...> The above-mentioned gentlemen in this publication showed the world miracles of their militant illiteracy <...>
<...> Your libelous reproach is ordinary envy, the envy of a generation of frightened "red professors" who everywhere see "relapses of chauvinism and racial intolerance." <...> As it turned out, many of this list did not even hold our books in their hands and subscribed to the “unanimous collective” according to the old Soviet habit. <...> Thus, there is an initiative group of several people engaged in the traditional craft of the Soviet era - weaving intrigues and spreading defamatory rumors, because it is not capable of anything else.
<...> We do not blame these people, like us, for amateurism, although their knowledge of the history of Russian anthropology is significantly lower than ours. No, we blame them for the lack of a civic position appropriate for a domestic scientific school. Without doing anything themselves in the field of popularization of the classical heritage, they literally “with hostility” perceive every side initiative.
