Tibarens ( Greek Τιβαρηνοί , [Tibarenoy], Tubals, Tobeli according to Josephus Flavius ) - an ancient people mentioned by the father of history Herodotus , as well as Xenophon , Strabo and other ancient authors. The tibarens were adjacent to such peoples as Mossinoi and Macrons , who lived along the Black Sea coast of Anatolia (ancient Pontus), even in Roman times. The tibarenes, along with other tribes of the Black Sea region , except the kolkhs , were subjugated by the Achaemenid Empire in the VI – V centuries. BC e. and were included in the nineteenth satrapy , but after the battle of Gaugamela and the weakening of the Persians became part of the later ancient Georgian kingdom of Iberia .
Interesting Facts
The tibarens are often identified with Tabal , the neo-Hittite kingdom in central Anatolia that formed in the early Iron Age. This is due to the fact that the protocartvelian ethnos was formed on the territory of the entire front of Asia and could well be partially hetterized .
There is an opinion that the tibarenes could have a relationship with the ancient Sumerian city of Bad Tiber , known as “Fortifications of the braziers ” [1] or “The fortress of blacksmiths ”. This fact is extremely interesting, since the Tibarens along with the Khalibs are one of the Kartvelian tribes, which are considered the creators of metallurgy.
