Name Etymology

The species is named after Arthur Gardiner Butler (1844-1925), an English entomologist [2] .

Description

The length of the front wing of males is 16-17 mm, females 15-19 mm. Wingspan 25–34 mm. Eyes with subtle hair. The front legs of the males are not segmented. The upper side of the wings of both sexes is the same - brown. In the marginal region of the hind wings there are large whitish spots. Black and white wing edging with distinct edges. The underside of the wings is yellowish-gray, covered with dark spots of various sizes and shapes. The front wing on the underside with 2-3 dark brown spots. On the front wings passes a continuous, but incomplete transverse bandage. The posterior corner of the hind wing is orange-yellow with a prominent black speck above the base of the tail. The tail is thin, black, 3-4 mm long [1] [2] .

Range

Russia ( Khabarovsk Territory , Primorye , Jewish Autonomous Region , Amur Region ), Japan , the Korean Peninsula , Northeast China [1] .

Biology

It is quite rare. For a year it develops in one generation. The flight time of butterflies lasts from mid-July to the end of August. Caterpillars of this species develop on various species of oaks ( Quercus ) [1] . Pupils in fallen leaves on the soil [2] .
