Two-story elevator - an elevator constructed from two rigidly fastened cabins located one above the other. This allows passengers to be accommodated on two floors of the elevator at the same time, which significantly increases the capacity of the elevator shaft. Such a scheme can be effective in buildings in which elevator stops occur on almost every floor. So, for example, one two-story elevator allows passengers to land on two adjacent floors at the same time.
The big advantage of double-deck elevators is that they take up less space than traditional elevators with the same throughput. In skyscrapers, where elevators, as a rule, occupy a significant area, this allows more efficient use of space.
Double-decker passenger and freight elevators
Not all double-decker elevators are used to transport only passengers on both floors. Sometimes in one or more elevators in a building, the second floor is used to transport goods, usually outside the peak periods of transportation, which eliminates the need for a separate freight elevator. During periods of peak load, elevators switch to passenger mode, accelerating the transportation of passengers in the building.
