Biography

Born in the family of the famous philologist Propp V.Ya. In 1959 he graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of Leningrad State University. A.A. Zhdanova. In 1960 - head of the laboratory of underwater research methods MMBI in the village. Far Zelentsy (where he suffered a dangerous peritonitis , but was saved [1] ). In 1961-1968 conducted research on the coastal zone of the Barents Sea, the results of which formed the basis of the monograph "Ecology of coastal bottom communities of the Murmansk coast of the Barents Sea (based on diving materials)." On the basis of a monograph in 1968 he defended his thesis. In 1965, he took part in the 11th Antarctic expedition on the Ob diesel electric ship as the leader of the underwater research group. The first dives were carried out in the vicinity of Mirny station. In 1973 he moved to Vladivostok, where he headed the laboratory of experimental hydrobiology at the Institute of Marine Biology (until 1989). In 1985 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Metabolism of coastal marine ecosystems." The leader and participant of numerous sea expeditions. In the 1990s He worked in the field of studying the permeability of sand of coastal communities, proposed the concept of “sandy soil as a biological filter”. In 2008, he retired. He died on July 18, 2018 in Vladivostok .

Wife - Propp (Asanova) Luiza Nikolaevna (b. 02/06/1935), candidate of biological sciences, hydrochemist. Son - Andrei Mikhailovich Propp (born 1958).
