Located in the northeast of Santo, in the immediate vicinity of the village of Port Olive [1] .
History
The village is the strong base of the Presbyterian Church . In 1897, Dr. Bowie, who was then a Scottish missionary , first created the mission of the Presbyterian Church in Hog Harbor. The name of the village appeared when the settlers, having first entered the island, found a large number of pigs there . In light of this, they called it Hog Harbor. During the British - French condominium, Hog Harbor was the administrative center of the British area. [2]
Population
Hog Harbor is currently growing rapidly in population. About 1000 people live in the village. It has English primary and secondary schools , a medical dispensary for local residents. There is a large Presbyterian church building that sits on top of a tiny hill in the village. The vast majority of people are followers of the Presbyterian Church [3] .
In the village there is a government representative - the mayor , who administers.
Transport
Hog Harbor has a developed system of roads by the standards of Vanuatu. Regular and freight buses run between the village and Lugonville, the capital of the island of Espiritu Santo. [four]
Sport
In the settlement, according to the youth sports development program , football and basketball fields were built. Special attention is also paid to the development of access to sports for the poor [5] .
