Biography

Lyubov Altunina was born on November 27, 1944 in the family of the village teacher Konstantin Ivanovich Altunin (1915–2008) and the otolaryngologist, Nina Ivanovna Altunina (nee Mosina, 1920–2002). Lyubov went to school in the town of Valuyki , but after the end of the first class the family moved to the town of Sovetskaya Gavan : here in 1962 Lyubov Altunina graduated from high school No. 45 with a gold medal. She was a student at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Leningrad State University (LSU), from which she graduated in 1967 with honors, becoming a "chemist".

From November 1967 to May 1971, Lyubov Altunina was a graduate student at Leningrad State University: at the same time, from October 1970 to July 1971, she was a junior researcher at the University’s Chemical Research Institute. In July 1971 she became a teacher, and from December next year - a senior teacher; from September 1974 to July 1975 she served as head of the department, then becoming an associate professor. Since October 1979, she occupied the position of Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry of the Ulyanovsk Higher Military Technical School.

In June 1981, Altunina became a senior researcher at the fuel laboratory of the Institute of Petroleum Chemistry, Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, where she also took up the post of head of the research team since November; from June 1983 she worked as head of the laboratory for enhanced oil recovery, and from January of next year she headed the laboratory of colloidal chemistry of oil at the Institute of Petroleum Chemistry. In November 1984, she became Deputy Director for Science, and in May 1997, Director of the Institute.

On September 1, 1997, Lubov Altunina became the head (part-time) of the department of high-molecular compounds of the chemistry department of Tomsk State University . On October 17, 2001, she was awarded the title of professor; reads a special course “Physical and chemical fundamentals of enhanced oil recovery methods”.
