Born December 17, 1937 in the city of Semenovka, Chernihiv region.
He graduated from the Leningrad Agricultural Institute (1961). In 1961-1964, a senior researcher at the Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture.
Since 1965 - at the All-Russian Research Institute of Plant Protection (now - All-Russian Research Institute of Plant Protection): postgraduate student (1965-1968), junior, senior researcher (1968-1986), head of the laboratory of mycology and phytopathology (1986-2000), Since 2000 - Chief Researcher.
He is the author of scientific works on the problems of genetics and population biology of phytopathogenic fungi, mechanisms of variability of pathogens of plant diseases and relationships in the host parasite system.
Doctor of Biological Sciences (1983), Professor (1988), Academician of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1999), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2013). Member of the New York Academy of Sciences (1995) and the National Academy of Mycology (2001).
Prize winner N. I. Vavilova “For contribution to the development of the scientific heritage of N. I. Vavilov in the field of plant immunity to diseases” (2014).
