Trachypithecus ebenus Brandon-Jones, 1995 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
It was originally described as a subspecies of Trachypithecus auratus , [1] was later recognized as a more closely related species, Trachypithecus francoisi , and was sometimes classified as a subspecies in this species. [2] In 2001, it was isolated in a separate form.
The coat is almost completely black, which is different from other members of the Trachypithecus francoisi group. With the view of Trachypithecus hatinhensis , parapatrium binds it, [2] [3] while genetically both of these species are barely distinguishable. [4] [5] This led to the suggestion that Trachypithecus ebenus is a black form of Trachypithecus hatinhensis , [6] which, in turn, may be a subspecies of Trachypithecus laotum . [4] [5] [7]
It is found in Laos and adjacent areas of Vietnam . [2]
