History
Mieczyslaw Dordzik was the son of a Vilnius artisan, a pupil of the boarding society “Future” ( “Przyszłość” ). His body was discovered a few weeks later. In May 1931, the Committee for the Perpetuation of the Memory of Mechislav Dordzik was formed. The author of the monument project is sculptor Professor Boleslav Balzukevich . April 23, 1934 after the mourning mass in the Bernardine church , which was served by priest Canon Stanislav Zavadsky, governor Vladislav Yashcholt opened the monument, and the priest canonized consecrated it.
Repeated attempts were made to demolish the monument. For example, in September 1994, under unclear circumstances (according to one version, it was accidentally demolished by a car driven by a drunk driver) it was destroyed and restored in 1995 .
