Paul Dubois-Pigalle ( born Paul Dubois-Pigalle ; July 18, 1829 , Nogent-sur-Seine - May 23, 1905 , Paris ) - French sculptor and portrait painter . Member of the French Academy of Fine Arts . One of the most talented French sculptors of the XIX - early XX centuries.

Biography
The son of a notary . To please his father, he first studied law, at the same time since 1858 he studied sculpture at Arman Toussin at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris.
He made his debut in the Paris Salon in 1857, at the same time he attached the prefix Pigalle to his surname in honor of the famous sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle . He improved in Italy, lived 4 years in Rome , studying there mainly works of Donatello and Michelangelo , learned many features of their naturalism . In 1863, he was awarded a silver medal at the Paris Salon for work sent to Paris from Rome.
In 1873, Dubois was appointed curator of the Luxembourg Museum . Since 1878 - Director of the Paris School of Fine Arts.
In 1865 and 1876 he was awarded the honorary medal of the Salon of Fine Arts. In June 1867 he became a holder of the Legion of Honor ; in July 1874 - an officer of the Legion of Honor ; in July 1886 - commander of the Legion of Honor ; in 1889 - a knight of the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor .
The main works of P. Dubois-Pigalle: “Florentine singer” (1865, Orsay Museum ), “Narcissus, who finished his bath” (1866, the Louvre ), “Virgin and Child” (1867, in the Paris Church of the Holy Trinity), a monument to the general Christophe Louis Leon Giusho de Lamoricière with four excellent allegorical figures of Mercy, Military Valor, Thoughtfulness and Civil Courage in the corners of the sarcophagus (1876-1878, in the Nantes Cathedral ) and the equestrian statue of Joan of Arc, executed for her monument in Reims .
He was buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery . In 1902, the Museum of Paul Dubois-Pigalle and Alfred Boucher was founded in his hometown.
