Ethnonym
The Kashgar Uzbeks [5] and East Turkestan Uighurs are called by the Chinese “chantu”, which is usually translated as “big-headed” [6] or “head wrapped” [7] , i.e. “Talmon bearers, for all the kashgarlyks carry turbaned heads on their heads” [5] . The ethnonym Chantu is also known in the form of Chantou. The Kalmyks of the carriers of the ethnonym Chant were called “Khotan” [7] .
M. Pevtsov, describing the sedentary cantu of Bugur , Korla, and Karashar , noted that they are also called dolans [6] . At the same time, the Xinjiang Dolans are an ethnic group of Uighurs of Mongolian origin [8] .
Subsequently, the name "chantu" was preserved by immigrants from China and became the name of the Oirat-speaking ethnic group, currently living in western Mongolia [9] .
