Dog-headed freshwater snakes [1] , or Cerberus [1] ( lat. Cerberus ) is a genus of snakes from the family Homalopsidae that lives in Southeast Asia .

Content
DescriptionThe total length of representatives of this genus ranges from 60 cm to 1.2 m. The head resembles a dog’s face in shape; a wide and long upper jaw gives this similarity. The head is long, clearly delimited from the neck. The eyes are small with round pupils. There are mandibular poisonous fangs. The body is strong, elongated. The tail is short.
Coloring is various: gray, brown, black, olive with specks or spots. The belly is lighter than the back.
The poison does not pose a threat to human life.
LifestyleInhabit river mouths , various reservoirs, mangroves . Swim and dive well. Active mainly at night, occasionally during the day. They feed on fish, crustaceans , and occasionally amphibians .
ReproductionThese are ovoviviparous snakes. Females give birth to up to 30 cubs.
DistributionThey live in Australia , Indonesia , Bangladesh , Cambodia , India , Malaysia , Myanmar , the Philippines .
