Story
The film adaptation of the unfinished novel by the writer Boris Gorbatov “Farewell” tells the story of the Belarusian peasant Nikifor, who in the early 1930s came to Donbass to earn money for a horse. Working on a lagging mine with the horse-drawn horse, Nikifor is tied to the obstinate mare. Experiencing a cruel attitude to the horse, he tried to return from the mine, but remains, having the dream to redeem the horse and return to his homeland with it. The miners working next to the main character become his friends.
The film tells about the decade of formation and development of the Stakhanov movement in the Donbass, the problems of the first mechanization and old foundations in the organization of work at the mine, the difficulties of adapting new miners to their new profession.
