Description
The Turaga Nation movement promotes the revival of traditional Melanesian values and customs, as well as their modernization to modern conditions. Instead of the Western economic system, which is seen as the cause of the poverty of the indigenous people of the archipelago and dependence on economically developed countries, the movement promotes the development of a traditional economy based on traditional systems of economic exchange and local forms of currency such as pork fangs. The Movement Nation Turaga runs the bank he created under the name “Tanbuniya”, the savings of which are stored in giant baskets. The bank has developed a unit of currency " livat " equal to the cost of a curved tusk of a boar. The movement also announced plans to print its own paper currency. The Turaga nation founded the "Melanesian Institute of Science, Philosophy, Humanity and Technology" in which students are offered an alternative to Western-style education. There is also its own elementary school, in which students study in their native language and write using the alphabet called Avoiuli designed in accordance with local traditions [1] [2] .
