Nazario Fiakaifonu ( born Nazario Fiakaifonu ; born March 27, 1988 , Port Vila ) is a Vanuatian judoka , a representative of the heavy weight category. He has been playing for the judo team of Vanuatu since 2011, a participant in the Summer Olympic Games in London and the World Cup in Paris .

Biography

Nazario Fiakayfonu was born on March 27, 1988 in the city of Port Vila , Vanuatu . He was trained in the local judo club of the same name "Port Vila".

In 2011, he became a member of the national team of Vanuatu and performed at the World Championships in Paris , where he was defeated by the German Robert Zimmerman in the opening duel of the heavy weight category. He also visited the World Cup in Samoa, where in the 1/8 finals he was defeated by Australian Jake Andrewwart . Due to these performances, Fiakaifonu scored enough points to get into the rating of the International Judo Federation [1] .

In 2012, he reached the quarter-finals at the Oceania Championships in Australia and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in London - in the first match of the category over 100 kg in the 1/16 finals he was defeated by the Lithuanian Marius Pashkevicius and immediately dropped out from the fight for medals. At the closing ceremony of the Games, he was entrusted with the right to carry the banner of his country [2] .

After the London Olympics, Fiakaifonu remained in the main squad of the judoist team of Vanuatu and continued to take part in major international tournaments. So, in 2015, he fought at the World Cup stage in Wollongong, where in the 1/8 finals of the heavy weight he lost to Estonian Johan Mettis. He was also supposed to speak at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , but for some unknown reason he never came out on the carpet here [3] .

In 2017, Nazario Fiakayfonu won the home of the Oceania Open in Port Vila, defeating all of his rivals in the heavyweight division [4] .

His sister Amata Fiakayfonu is also a judoka and also performs at the international level [5] .
