Biography

Pitrson became interested in photography as a child, watching his uncle working on the film. During his studies at Bothell High School, Peterson's photographs were printed in a school newspaper and an annual almanac. Subsequently, graduated from Washington University . Currently, the bulk of Peterson’s revenue is licensing fees for his photographs and books. Also, from time to time he is engaged in photographing to order, some musicians [3] .

Peterson is known for his work depicting the formation of an underground music scene in the late 1980s - early 1990s, the American Northwest . Peterson's trademark was full-sized, uncroped photographs. Subsequently, experts described his work as follows: “Peterson became famous for his action-packed, sometimes slightly blurred, black-and-white photographs taken with a wide-angle lens” [3] .

The publicist Everett Tru called him a photographer who shaped the look of the Seattle grunge, in turn, the founder of the Sub Pop label, Jonathan Pounman, described the photographer’s work in this way: “Charles was the main component, especially at the very beginning. His photographs conveyed the very essence of this music ” [4] .

The photographer himself noted: “Seattle’s audience was very interesting. I was not interested in just photographing the soloist [of any group]. I wanted to get experience so that the viewer felt that he was in the thick of things. ... I love the compositional part of the shoot. The way my eyes and brain interact - I constantly come up with ideas, with or without a camera ” [3] .

Peterson currently resides in Seattle with his wife, son Felix and daughter Leica [5] .
