Biography
Sports career
She was fond of gymnastics as a child, but in the early 1980s the family moved from Romania to Algeria , where Roxanne's father got a job under a contract, and then they asked for political asylum in France, fleeing Ceausescu's regime . At the age of 9 (in 1984), already in France, she took up swimming, explaining the then choice with practical considerations in an interview - sports success could help in naturalization . In 1991, the Merachinyanu family received French citizenship [1] .
In 1991, representing the team in the summer championship held in Millau , for the first time she won the titles of French champion in swimming at and meters on the back.
Represented France at the 1998 Water Sports Championships in Perth (gold medal in 200m backstroke - the first for France), as well as at the 2000 Summer Olympics - 100m backstroke (4th place) and 200 meters on the back (silver medal) [2] .
After Sports
In 2005 she graduated from the Higher School of Commerce [3] .
Unable to pass the qualifying competitions for participation in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, in October of the same year she announced her retirement from the sport. Since 2007, she has advised the sports programs of France Télévisions, L'Equipe TV and Europe 1, and in 2010 she was elected to the regional council of саle-de-France as a candidate for the Socialist Party . In July 2018, Prime Minister Eduard Philippe invited Marasinyan to develop plans for the prevention of water accidents and teaching swimming in schools [4] .
On September 4, 2018, she received the portfolio of the Minister of Sports in the second government of Philip after the resignation of Laura Flessel [5] .
Personal life
Roksana Marasinyanu is married to France Inter and France Info journalist Frank Ballanger, their family has three children who were two, seven and nine years old at the time of the ministerial appointment.
