Preparation for the celebrations took about a year. The main celebratory action took place in the ancient city of Persepol - the ceremonial capital of the Persian Empire during the rule of the Achaemenid dynasty. Another part of the celebrations was held in Tehran , as well as in Pasargadi , in the city where the tomb of the Persian king Cyrus is located. A year before, the local infrastructure was improved, including the Shiraz airport , located nearby Persepolis, which received all guests arriving for the holiday, was reconstructed.

The area around the venue was thoroughly cleansed of snakes and other parasites [3] . Different types of trees and flowers were planted. And about 50,000 birds were imported from Europe [4] .

The festivities were officially opened on October 12, 1971, on the day when Mohammed Reza Pahlavi and Shahban Farah Pahlavi , shahinshakh, commemorated Cyrus the Great in his tomb.

Instead, the countries were represented by the Queen’s spouse, Prince Consort Philip [5], and US Vice President Spiro Agnew, respectively.
