Content
ClassificationThe classification is debatable, it is sometimes indicated that the species described in 2006 were identified only based on genetic distance, and all are allopatric . [1] [2]
DescriptionThe back is reddish-brown, grayish-yellow at the base of the tail. The head is also reddish-brown, the muzzle is gray-brown. On the back of the head is a blurred dark brown strip that extends to the middle of the back. The inner surface of the thighs is reddish-brown, otherwise the limbs are gray. The coat is long and thick. The dimensions are relatively small - the total length is from 49 to 56 cm, including the tail length from 24 to 27 cm. [3] [1]
SpreadInhabits the northern part of Madagascar, inhabits dry deciduous and evergreen forests. [3] The area covers the reserve Loki-Manambatu, as well as the protected forests of Andrafiamen, where the species is sympatric to the related species Lepilemur ankaranensis . [1] [4]
Population statusThe International Union for Conservation of Nature has granted this species the status “ Endangered ”. The main threats to the population are hunting and deforestation. [2]
