The Case of Abderrezac Bessegir

On December 28, 2002, at about 6:30 a.m., Marcel Le Hire, a former foreign legion soldier who worked as a private detective after his resignation, noticed a weapon in the trunk of one of the cars in the parking lot of terminal 2F of Roissy Airport. Police warned by the detective detained the owner of the car, Abderrezak Bessegir, a French citizen of Algerian descent, who worked in the luggage compartment of the airport for three years. In the car, the police discovers weapons (Colt 45 caliber and automatic), explosives (five packs of Yugoslav plastic explosives, two detonators and a wick), as well as a pro-Palestinian leaflet ^[1] .

Bessegir was charged with preparing a terrorist act. He himself denied his guilt, claiming a conspiracy by the relatives of his recently deceased wife. Indeed, in July 2002, his wife Louise died of many burns. Bessegir claimed that she suffered burns as a result of an accident, the case quickly closes as suicide , but Louise's parents, Fatia and Ahmed Beshiri, continue to claim that Bessegir killed his wife.

An investigation into the incident at the airport quickly concludes Bessegir’s innocence. Police say the Beshiri family hired two private detectives: one to drop weapons into the trunk of Bessegir’s car, and the other to tell the police about the weapons in their son-in-law’s car. January 12, 2003, Bessegir was released and released from Fleury-Merogis prison, the next day his wife’s parents are being investigated. Together with three other participants in the plot (the uncle of Bessegir’s wife and two private detectives) are charged with defamation, violation of the law on weapons, ammunition and explosives, as well as criminal conspiracy. The conspirators are recognized in the organization of the conspiracy and on June 16, 2004 they are awarded twenty months in prison (of which 14 are conditional), as well as compensation for damage to Bessegir of 15,000 euros. Even during the investigation, the press claims the suspect’s connections with the Islamic movements. France Channel 3 was convicted on November 4, 2005 by the Paris Correctional Court of unjustly accusing Bessegir. ^[2]
