Reeves, Jamie

Jamie Reeves (born May 3, 1962 in Sheffield ) - a former British strongman, wrestler, outside of sports - a miner. The world's strongest man in 1989, the two-time World Muscle Power winner, also had many other titles, including Europe's strongest man and Britain's strongest man [1] . After retiring from the sport, he continued to participate in power athletics as a referee, promoter and coach.

Early years

Born in Sheffield, Yorkshire in 1962, Reeves grew up there and studied at a local city school. At school, he was swimming, was a striker of the school football team, and also played the position of the eighth (constricting) rugby player, won the Yorkshire Cup with up to 15 years with the team [1] . He learned to be a welder, but left this profession, taking up professional sports.

Strongman

When Reeves saw the BBC , as Bill Kazmeier won his third World's Strongest Man tournament in 1982, he set himself the goal of winning the tournament and began to train. By 1986, he became the Yorkshire and Northeast heavyweight champion. In addition to powerlifting, he actively participated in power athletics. In 1986, he won the National Truck Freight Championship and in the same year, he ranked second after Peter Tregloan in the Strongest Man of the Midland. In 1987, he improved his result by winning the title of the strongest man in Midland (the first of three wins in a row). In the same year, he won the first of three consecutive tournaments. The strongest man in Yorkshire and won the tournament. The strongest man in England. In 1988, he received the title The Strongest Man in Eastern Britain and took part in a tournament organized by Jeff Capes and David Webster in order to find a successor to Capes leaving the sport. In the same year he won the title of the most powerful man in Britain. He also broke Tom Topham's 274-year-old record by lifting three barrels of beer with a total weight of 845 kg in a harness [1] .

The culmination of these speeches was an invitation to the 1988 World's Strongest Man , where he took third place on the first attempt after Jone Paudl Sigmarsson and Bill Kazmeier. The following year he won the San Sebastian [1] tournament, he showed the best results in the exercises, where you need a good hold. He missed the next two tournaments due to injury and on returning in 1992, he shared second place with Magnus Ver Magnusson . In the domestic arena, he continued to win strongman tournaments and eventually became the ninefold strongest man in England.

After retiring from the sport, Reeves became a judge of the strongman tournaments and opened his own gym [2] .
