The taking of the Pravets position is an episode of the Russo-Turkish war , during which the Russian troops captured the Turkish position in the area of the town of Pravets on November 11 ( 23 ), 1877 .
From mid-summer 1877, Russians besieged Pleven , where Osman Pasha was . After the battle of Gorny Dubnyak on November 6 ( 18 ), 1877, the western detachment of the Russian army of General Gurko occupied Yablanitsa . The Turkish army of Mehmed Ali held positions in the Pravets region, covering the roads to Orhaniye and Etropole . Gurko ordered Clot to move from Vratsa to Novichen in order to divert the attention of the Turks. On November 10 ( 22 ), 1877, the Clot crossed Iskar , but stumbled upon significant forces of the Turks, led by Mehmed Ali himself. On November 11 ( 23 ), 1877, the main blow ( Shuvalov , Ellis , Raukh ) fell on Pravets. Rauch, with his detachment, went to the Turkish positions along the mountain trails through the village of Praveshka-Lakavitsa . Shuvalov and Ellis moved from Yablanitsa to Pravets along the highway.
Rauch’s maneuver allowed him to occupy the heights on the flank of the Turkish Pravets position and begin shelling. During the shootings, Russian troops lost 72 people dead and wounded. The Turks lost 137 people killed, including one British officer. At the end of November 11 ( 23 ), 1877 , the Turks preferred to retreat to Orhaniye Botevgrad . Success on the same day allowed the Russians to occupy Etropole [1] , the Vrachesky Pass and Botevgrad .
