History
The name of the ducal title comes from the name Albufera , a sea lagoon located 10 km south of Valencia (Spain). On January 9, 1812, Marshal Louis-Gabriel Suchet in the Albufera lagoon accepted the surrender of the garrison of the Spanish fortress Valencia under the command of Joaquin Blake .
On January 3, 1813, Marshal Suchet received an imperial decree granting him the ducal title.
In 1814, after the defeat of Napoleon and the accession to the throne of Louis XVIII, Marshal Suchet was included in the House of Peers . On June 2, 1815 , during the Hundred Days, Napoleon I retained a place in the House of Peers for Susha. July 24, 1815 after a secondary restoration to the throne of Louis XVIII, Marshal Suchet was expelled from the House of Peers. On March 5, 1819, Marshal Louis Gabriel Suchet was reinstated in the House of Peers. March 17, 1827 the title of the Duke-peer d'Albufera was recognized by royal decree hereditary in the Suchet family. In 1826, after the death of Louis Gabriel Suchet, he was succeeded by his son, Louis Napoleon Suchet, 2nd Duke of d'Albufera.
