Ideology
The Democratic Party was a patriotic party, advocated the idea of direct democracy, interventionism, social monopoly, rejecting the class struggle . At the same time, the Democratic Party advocated social reform.
History
The Estates of the Democratic Movement were founded in 1867 in Zurich, then in 1888 in St. Gallen , in Thurgau in 1891, in Glarus in 1902 and in Appenzell-Auserroden in 1906.
In 1971, before the parliamentary elections, the party was divided into two factions. The branches of the cantons Glarus and Graubünden merged with the Party of Peasants, Artisans and Burghers and formed the Swiss People's Party . Branches in other cantons, such as Argau , Basel-Stadt and Schaffhausen , joined the Free Democratic Party [1] [2] .
