Coin Sessions

Sessions ( Latin: Suessiones, Suaeuconi , Greek. Σουεσσωωεε ) - a strong Celtic tribe of belgs , inhabiting in the 1st century BC. e. the Belgian Roman province of Belgian Gaul , an area in the Oise and Marne rivers, the word Suaeuconi served as the name of the modern city of Soason . In 57 BC e. were conquered by Julius Caesar .

Pliny the Elder tells of them in Natural History , calling them Suaeuconi .

Caesar tells in his Notes on the Gallic War , which in 57 BC. e. Sressions were ruled by the leader Galba . He traces the fate of the Sressions until about 80 BC.

Gallic tribes during the time of Guy Julius Caesar

The area of this Celtic tribe was particularly fertile. Their neighbors were bumps , nervousness , viromandui , bellows [1] .

The rulers of the swings could have put up more than 50,000 people for the battles, and after the Bellows they were considered the bravest in Belgian Gaul [2] . Their leader Divithiac not only owned a huge part of Gaul, but also part of Britain [3] . The Sessions fought along with other Belga tribes against the Romans, but were subjugated. They became allies of the Romans and ruled by the Senate .

Their main city was Noviodunum , later Augusta Suessonum , now Soissons.

Coins minted by Belgian galls first appeared in Britain in the middle of the II century BC, now this coinage is classified as the “Gallo-Belgian type”. Coins associated with the leader Divithiac , issued around or between 90-60 years BC, were classified as "Gallo-Belgic C." The finds of this coin extend from Sussex to Wash and concentrate mainly near Kent . The finds of the later Gallo-Belgic F coins (approximately 60-50 BC) are concentrated near Paris , throughout the sessions and southern coastal areas of Britain . These findings allow scholars to suggest that the Swedes had significant trade and migration to Britain during the 2nd and 1st centuries before the Roman conquest.
