In Russia, before Peter I , only sovereigns and descendants of former appanage and sovereign princes had titles. Ivan III established a large (with the name of all subordinate areas and used in diplomatic relations) and small titles (See the title of state ). As the territory expanded, the title changed: Ivan IV in 1547 assumed the title of king , in 1721 the Senate and the Synod offered Peter the title of emperor . Peter I himself began to bestow the titles of the count and baron , and with it appeared the corresponding appeals: grace and lordship . The last appeal was later retained only in some princely families (the Most Serene Princes ).
After the October Revolution of 1917, all the ranks, titles and titles of Tsarist Russia were abolished.
