History

The church was built by the merchant Harlampiy in 1836 and is dedicated to the holy martyr Harlampiy . In the temple there is a tablet with an inscription on the completion of construction in 1812, but it refers to the previous building of the church. Until the beginning of the XIX century, a cemetery was located at this place [1] . In the "Protocols and journals of the Bessarabian Scientific Archival Commission" from August 23, 1898 to the end of 1899 it is said:

Back in the first quarter of this century (XIX), tourists noted the traces of an ancient cemetery near the current Holy Harlampiev Church. And so, in the first days of March of this year, in 1899, in the courtyard of Craise’s house, not far from the corner formed by Minkowska and Kharlampievskaya streets (Minkovskaya street, d. No. 4), a gravestone completely disappeared into the ground with a Moldovan inscription reads: “ Aiche is once the roaba lui Dumneseu Smaragda society li Shchefan Poleitull l (UTB) 1747 ”, i.e. "Here lies the servant of God Smaragda, wife of Stefan Poleit, 1747." Thanks to the assistance of the former Police Chief Prince Yuri Grigoryevich Kantakuzin, the stone was selected in the museum of our Academic Commission.

During the Soviet era, the building housed the Danko Theater. In 1993, Archpriest Anatoly Pushkash began rebuilding the church. On September 27, 2001, Archpriest Mikhail Gondyu was appointed rector of the Kharlampievskaya Church [2] .

Architecture

The church was built in a neoclassical style, according to a project typical of the Russian Empire. The plan has a cross. The dome of the temple is located on a wide round drum with arched windows. External walls are decorated with pilasters and other architectural elements [3] .
