Etymology
Teneates (probably from the Greek taenea, taenia - strip, rim, border) - "bordered" [1] .
Description
The length of the front wing from males is 24-28 mm, in females 25-30 mm. The wings on the upper side are white or slightly creamy, with darkened edges. The front wing carries a wide black marginal band with obscure white spots. In the cell M1-M2 of the wing there is a bright elongated spot of white color, against which there is a small, ocular spot. Also, two more small white spots are located at the costal margin of the wing. The central cell is white with slight dimming at the very root of the wing. Hind wing with a wide black stripe with a series of small white spots at the edge and ocular spots on all cells except M2-M3. The underside of the hind wing is yellowish, with a black distinct line along the edge and a zigzag line formed from V-shaped fragments and five bright ocular spots against the background of gray fields [1] .
Range
Iran , Talysh mountains , western parts of the Elburs ridge (Gilan). Butterflies are inhabited by glades and fringes with dense grassy vegetation at the upper border of the forest, at altitudes from 1000 to 1500 meters above sea level [1] .
Biology
Develops in one generation in a year. The flight time of butterflies lasts from May to July. Winters at the caterpillar stage. Fodder plants of caterpillars are various cereals [1] .
