Final

Finish line

The men's 100m finals took place on August 7, 2018 [5] . Before the start, the trouble befell one of the main favorites of Jimmy Vico . In the final acceleration at the warm-up, a few minutes before entering the arena, he received an injury to the back of his thigh, after which he refused to participate in the final [6] . In the absence of the Frenchman, the representatives of Great Britain played the championship. European season leader Jarnel Hughes was the best at the starting acceleration, and then was able to keep the advantage earned. His compatriot Rice Prescode had a great second half of the distance, but still remained in second place. Both runners exceeded the European Championship record that Vico had set two hours earlier [7] .

With a difference of half an hour, the British sprinters won the distance of 100 meters in both men and women, where Dina Asher-Smith distinguished herself. Thus, the UK became the fourth country in the history of the European Championships, whose representatives were able to make such a winning double. Prior to this, Poland ( 1966 ), East Germany ( 1982 ) and the Netherlands ( 2016 ) achieved similar success.
