The Swiss referendum on the electoral system was held on October 23, 1910 [1] . Voters were asked if they approve the introduction of proportional representation in the National Council. Although the referendum was approved by the majority of cantons, 52.5% of voters rejected it [1] . After a similar referendum of 1900, this was the second time that the proposal for proportional representation was rejected. The proposal was again considered in 1918 and approved [1] .
Electoral system
The referendum on proportional representation in the National Council was a civil initiative and demanded a double majority for approval [2] .
