History

BICH-23 was developed as a prototype of a supersonic aircraft . It was made according to the “ flying wing ” scheme and was a modernization of the BEACH-22 glider. It differs from its predecessor in size, smaller elongation and greater sweep of the wing .

On February 7, 1949, tests began at the Tushino airfield . First, he was lifted into the air, towed by a Li-2 . Then flights to a height of 3,000, 2,000 and 1,500 m were carried out, followed by uncoupling from the towing vehicle. The duration of the free flight was 3 hours 18 minutes. The glider showed satisfactory track and lateral stability, but the longitudinal stability was insufficient. Control of the course was carried out with the help of brake flaps or due to the roll.

In flight on February 9, 1949, aerobatics was performed on a glider.
