The Perishing Fleet remained 30 light years from the planet, but continues to approach. Ravna is trying to prevent the destruction of the planet, accelerating the development of local civilization to the necessary technological level. To do this, she defrosts the surviving children and uses the ship's archives to create new technologies. Her plans are hindered by internal intrigues and the difficult political situation on the planet.
