Sochi 1981 - a chess tournament dedicated to the memory of M. I. Chigorin .
The competition was organized by the Chess Federation of the RSFSR.
The tournament was held in August - September 1981.
16 chess players participated in the tournament: 9 Soviet (4 grandmasters, 2 international and 3 national masters) and 7 foreigners (2 grandmasters, 4 international and 1 national masters).
The competition was held in a bitter struggle. The outcome of the tournament race was largely determined by how the participants who fought for the victory played against those who took places in the middle and bottom of the table. Grandmaster V.V. Tseshkovsky passed the distance more confidently than others, and he took 1st place.
The rules of the international grandmaster and international master were set at the tournament. The norm of the grandmaster was fulfilled by Hungarian J. Pinter, the norm of the international master was A.V. Weiser.
Tournament games are only partially represented in the databases.
