History
Competitions in alpine skiing at the Universiade are an integral part of this sports festival for students, since at the very first Universiade in Chamonix in 1960, this sport was introduced. This kind of program is a must for winter Universiades.
At the last Universiade in Kazakhstan , student athletes from Russia managed to win 2 gold medals. In the male part of the program, Italian skiers won two medals of the highest value. Athletes from Austria, Latvia, Japan, Belarus and the Czech Republic were able to get one gold medal.
The program of these games did not change compared to the previous ones; nine sets of awards were also played. All disciplines repeat the program of the previous Universiade (super giant, giant slalom, slalom, combination and team parallel slalom) [1] .
Rules for participation
In accordance with the FISU Regulation, skiers must meet the following requirements for participation in the World Universiade (Article 5.2.1):
- Students who are currently studying at higher educational institutions or who have graduated from university no more than a year ago are allowed to compete.
- All athletes must be citizens of the country they represent.
- Participants must be over 17 years old, but under 28 years old on January 1, 2019 (that is, only athletes born between January 1, 1991 and December 31, 2001 are allowed).
All types of programs are conducted and judged according to the international rules for skiing competitions.
