At the 2018 draft, Sabers were eligible for the first general draft pick under which Swedish defender Rasmus Dalin was selected. On July 1, Buffalo traded Ryan O'Reilly to St. Louis Blues for Patrick Berglund , Vladimir Sobotkau , Page Thompson and two draft picks , and on August 2, Jeff Skinner was traded at Carolina [1] . On October 3, Jack Ickel was appointed captain of the Buffalo Sabers. [2]
In November, Buffalo scored 10 victories in a row and repeated the club record for the duration of the winning streak [3] . Also in November, Sabers led the league’s overall league table [4] . However, in the future, the team was unable to maintain the momentum and, following the results of the regular season, for the 8th time in a row, did not get into the playoffs. [5] On April 7, Phil Housley was dismissed as head coach of the club [6] , and Ralph Krueger was appointed in his place. [7]
