Biography
In the 1940s He graduated from the Sultan Idris College in Perak, improved his Japanese skills first in Sarawak, then at the Kokusai Gakuyukai International School in Tokyo (1944) and the University of Hiroshima (1945). During this period, survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima . In 1954, he studied in the field of public and social management at the British Technical College of South Devon.
In the postwar period, he worked as a teacher in the Malay school of Kuala Belite.
He was the last surviving member of the committee created in 1953 by Sultan Omar Ali Sayfuddin III to prepare the Constitution, adopted in 1959.
His career in public service began in 1957 as an official in the Ministry of Information, from 1962 to 1964. served as Deputy Secretary of State and Director of Broadcasting and Information. In 1964 he was appointed Secretary of State of Brunei. In 1965, Mr .. approved as Acting Chief Minister of Brunei.
From 1967 to 1972, he served as Chief Minister of Brunei. In 1973 he left the civil service.
In 1995-2001 - High Commissioner (Ambassador) of Brunei in Malaysia, 2001-2002. - Ambassador to Japan.
In the period between work in the public service, he worked in private business. He served as QAF vice chairman Brunei Sdn Bhd, the parent company of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, and played a leading role in creating Media Permata, one of the leading newspapers in Brunei.
Until the end of his life he was a member of the Parliament of Brunei .
He was the author of the text of the national anthem of Brunei .
As a writer, he was awarded several awards, for example, the SEA Write Award, the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifudden Prize. He was an Honorary Doctor of the University of Brunei Darussalam and Honorary Religious Prize of Brunei Darussalam. In 2013, the University of Hiroshima awarded him an honorary doctorate for strengthening relations between Japan and Brunei.
