Names and Etymology
The name of the city Stain comes from the Middle English stanes , which, in turn, comes from the Old English stānas "stones". The name was changed in 2012 to Staines upon Thames [1] , including in order to remove the association of the city with the character Ali G from the Ali G Show [2] .
Location
Staines upon Thames is located within the western border of the M25 ring road, 27 km southwest of Charing Cross . The city is located within the London Underground district , the metropolitan area Greater London and is adjacent to part of the green belt of London .
