Biography
Born in the family of a large landowner. Pedro Vicente Maldonado, niece of an Ecuadorian scientist, politician, physicist, mathematician, astronomer, topographer and geographer. The family cultivated a love of art, literature and science, had a large library. Magdalena was distinguished by her ability for languages, especially French, as well as for painting, music and literature.
As was customary in those days, in 1738 at the age of 13 she was married to don Juan Manuel de Lizarzabur, who was 15 years old, a descendant of a Basque family. I gave birth to a son.
In 1757, she was widowed. She was the mistress of the literary salon.
In modern Ecuador it is known for its education, academic knowledge and literary talents. She was the only female member of the famous literary society Escuela de la Concordia ( School of Concord , also known as the Patriotic Society of Friends of Quito ).
She was buried in Riobamba, in the church of San Francisco, which was built with the support of her son Jose Antonio.
In memory of Magdalen Davalos i Maldonado, a street in Riobamba and one of the city schools are named.
