Biography
Jabier Sandio was born in 1977 in a sports family. One of his brothers is a football player, the other played pelota - a Basque national sport. Sandio also made a choice in favor of sports, and since 1999 he was an intern at the Banesto team, and two years later he signed a professional contract with her as a full member of this team.
In 2002, Sandio won his first victory on a professional level, winning a team race with his partners in the first leg of the Tour of Portugal .
In 2003, the Spaniard made his debut at the Tour de France , which he completed in 51st position, and a year later was only 97th.
In 2005, having returned to the race after an injury, Habier won the Classic de Gaudarram race, and was close to winning the Tour de France stage, but he became second in the 16th stage to Poe , losing to Oscar Pereiro in the final acceleration. The 22nd place in the overall standings was the best result for Sandio on super- flyers.
Sandio won the main professional victory in 2008, having excelled in the overall standings of the weekly Vuelta of Burgos .
In 2011, after a ten-year stay with iBanesto.com, he joined the British Sky Procycling team. In this team, Sandio mainly performed support functions for the team leaders. The main success in the British team for Habier was the victory in the team race at the second stage of the Giro 2013 .
He completed his sports career after the end of the 2016 season. After that, he became one of the sports directors of Team Sky .
