Biography
He graduated from high school in his native village. In 1934 he entered the faculty of language and literature of the Ural Pedagogical Institute . In 1936 he moved to Alma-Ata and transferred to the philological faculty of the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute [1] . In 1938-1939 he taught at the Kyzylorda College. In 1939-1941 he worked as an editor of the Kazakh State Literature Publishing House.
After the start of World War II, Zhumagaliev was drafted into the army. During the battles for one of the villages, following the order of the command, he covered with fire the retreat of his colleagues. The Germans surrounded the house in which Zhumagaliyev defended himself, and burned him alive [3] . The poet’s feat is dedicated to the poem by K. Amanzholov “Akyn Ulimi Turaly Akiz” (“The Legend of the Poet's Death”, 1943) [2] .
Zhumagaliev’s first poem was also published in the alias “Bizdin Enbek” (Uralsk, 1934). He is the author of the lyric poems “Tokiodagy Dauys” (“Voice in Tokyo”), “Shykys Kyzy” (“Oriental Girl”), “Asan Turaly akyz” (“The Legend of Asan”). He translated the works of Byron, M. Lermontov, Nizami, Toktagul into Kazakh. The poet’s literary heritage is included in the collections “Taңdamaly өleңder” (“Selected Poems”, 1945), “пппес жалын” (“Inextinguishable Flame”, 1962), “мlmes өmіr dastany” (“Dastan of Immortality”, 1985) [2] .
