Functions
Glycoprotein V (GP5) is included in the receptor complex of glycoprotein Ib-IX-V along with the alpha and beta chains of glycoprotein Ib and glycoprotein IX . The complex functions as a von Willebrand factor receptor and is involved in platelet adhesion to the damaged surface of arteries, a critical initial stage of hemostasis [1] .
Structure
Glycoprotein V, a transmembrane protein, consists of 544 amino acids, the extracellular domain contains 8 N-glycosylation sites at asparagine residues.
