“Raise Your Weapon” is a Canadian producer’s song deadmau5 , released May 23, 2011 as the fifth and final single from the 4 × 4 = 12 album. The song was written by Joel Zimmerman, Sidney Sheffield and Sonny Moore, better known under the pseudonym Skrillex , with the participation of Faroese singer Greta Svabo Beh [1] . The song was well received by critics and became commercially successful by entering the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving platinum status according to Music Canada . She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording of 2012 , but lost to Scrilex 's Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites .

Reception

Commercial Success

“Raise Your Weapon” made its debut in the Billboard Hot 100 in the hundredth position, thereby becoming the first single from Deadmaus to enter this chart [3] , and also took 11th position in Heatseekers Songs [4] . MTV reporter John Mitchell suggested the charts were successful in appearing as a producer at the 54th Grammy Awards , where he performed with David Guetta , Lil Wayne , Foo Fighters and Chris Brown. [5]

On February 18, 2016, the song became gold according to Music Canada , and on December 19, 2017 it was certified as platinum [6] .

Reviews

Raise Your Weapon has been well received by critics. AllMusic's David Jeffries writes that the tracks “One Trick Pony” and “Raise Your Weapon” show the producer’s newfound love for dubstep and add variety to the album [1] . Will Hermes from Rolling Stone magazine also praised the song, praising the transition of the song from progressive house to dubstep [7] . Dave Simpson of The Guardian writes that “Raise Your Weapon - with the help of Greta Swabo Beh's soulful vocals - shows how Deadmouse is able to create deep melodies” [8] . Michelangelo Matos from The AV Club gives mixed reviews, calling the verses “not very thought out”, and the transition to dubstep “formulaic” [9] .

Billboard Magazine puts the song in fifth place in the list of 20 best Deadmus tracks [10] .
