Sochi 1974 (chess tournament)

Sochi 1974 - a chess tournament dedicated to the memory of M. I. Chigorin .

The competition was organized by the Chess Federation of the RSFSR.

16 chess players participated in the tournament: 9 Soviet (6 grandmasters and 3 national masters) and 7 foreigners (3 grandmasters, 3 international and 1 national master).

The Soviet grandmaster L. A. Polugaevsky won a confident victory in the tournament. An international master from the GDR, L. Espig, achieved major success, sharing 2–3 places with another Soviet grandmaster A.S. Suetin.

The standards of the international grandmaster and international master were established at the tournament. The norm of the international master was fulfilled by E. E. Sveshnikov.
