The mirror area of the lake is 2.23 km², height - 3239 meters above sea level. The catchment area is 80.5 km² [2] . The lake is hydrologically associated with neighboring Sarez [4] . Two rivers flow into the lake: Shadau and Marjanay, both less than 10 km long [2] .
Lake Shadau was formed as a result of overlapping gorges of the Bartang and Shadau rivers with the Usoi block in February 1911 [5] . Until 1914, both lakes remained drainless, after which the water began to be filtered through the body of the blockage [3] . There is a danger of destruction of the blockage and breakthrough of the waters of Shadau and Lake Sarez, which will lead to great destruction and human casualties [4] .
