Content
History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded December 12, 1704 [1] . The municipality of Sabanagrande was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1857.
Geographical position
The city is located in the eastern part of the department, within the Caribbean lowland , west of the Magdalena river, approximately 15 kilometers south-southeast (SSE) from the city of Barranquilla , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 4 meters above sea level [2] . The municipality of Sabanagrande is bordered in the north by the territory of the municipality of Malambo , in the west by the municipality of Polonuevo , in the south by the municipality of Santo Tomas , in the east by the territory of the department of Magdalena . The area of the municipality is 43 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 31,678 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by year:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 50.8% of the population of Sabanagrande, women - respectively, 49.2%. Racially whites and mestizos accounted for 99.9% of the city’s population; Blacks , mulattoes, and Riesale - 0.1% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 88.1%.
Economy
The economy of Sabanagrande is agriculture [1] .
53.7% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are enterprises of the trade sector, 36.8% - enterprises of the service sector, 7.8% - industrial enterprises, 1.6% - enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
Transportation
Through the city passes the national highway number 25 ( Spanish. Ruta Nacional 25 ).
