Biography
Born on August 24, 1921 in the village of Lutensky Budyshki of the Zenkovsky district of the Poltava province (now the Zenkovsky district of the Poltava region of Ukraine ). Ukrainian.
In 1939 he graduated from high school and on December 5 of the same year he was drafted into the Red Army and sent to serve in the artillery regiment in the city of Odessa. As having secondary education was identified in the regimental school of junior commanders.
In February 1940 he was sent to study at the Sevastopol school of anti-aircraft artillery. At the end of 1940, this February kit was transferred to the Gorky school of anti-aircraft artillery in the city of Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod). In June 1941, after graduating from college, he was sent to the 2nd Air Defense Corps as a lieutenant to serve in the city of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). Arriving at the 169th anti-aircraft artillery regiment (169th zap), he was appointed commander of the fire platoon of the 4th battery. The firing position of the battery was on the gunner island. Here he was caught by the Great Patriotic War.
In August 1941, he was appointed commander of the 1st battery of the 169th app. The firing position of the battery was located in the trading port of Leningrad. On November 4, 1941, a battery under the command of Lieutenant Milchenko shot down his first enemy aircraft - the Junkers-88 bomber.
The battery reflected German air raids on the ships of the Baltic Fleet and was attacked by a group of three Junkers-87 on April 27, 1942. Battery calculations opened fire on the first plane, and it was shot down. Two other planes turned back. For the fighting in April 1942, the battery personnel received gratitude from the command, and the battery commander, Lieutenant N. P. Milchenko, was awarded his first military award - the medal “For Courage”. In 1942 he joined the CPSU (b) / CPSU.
In March 1943 he was appointed chief of staff of the 1st division of the 169th app. At the end of 1943, troops began preparations for the operation "Neva-2" for the complete liberation of Leningrad from the blockade. The division under the command of N.P. Milchenko was part of the support group for the parts of the 109th Rifle Corps.
After powerful artillery preparation, on January 14, 1944, the offensive of the 2nd shock army began from the Primorsky bridgehead, and on January 15 from the Pulkovo heights, the 42nd army. On the first day of the operation, Milchenko’s division fired 1,200 shells at ground targets, and an F-190 plane was shot down. From January 15 to 19, 1944, the division destroyed 8 mortar and 4 artillery batteries. January 27, 1944 the blockade of Leningrad was lifted. The 169th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment honorably fulfilled its defense of Leningrad in 1941, for which he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, and for successful military operations to lift the blockade of the city, the regiment was awarded the second Order of the Red Banner and received the name "Krasnoselsky". In May 1944, the regiment was reorganized into the 83rd separate anti-aircraft artillery Krasnoselskaya Twice Red Banner Air Defense Brigade.
After the blockade was lifted, Leningrad served in the regiment’s headquarters, and after its reorganization, he served as assistant chief of staff of the 83rd separate anti-aircraft artillery Krasnoselskaya Twice Red Banner Air Defense Brigade. In August 1944, he was appointed senior assistant to the chief of the combat training department of the headquarters of the Leningrad Air Defense Army, where he served until the end of the war. For exemplary performance of the tasks of the command in November 1944, Captain N.P. Milchenko was awarded the Order of the Red Star.
After the war he graduated from the Artillery Academy. He commanded a regiment, an anti-aircraft missile brigade, an air defense division. He graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff.
In 1969-1971 - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Air Defense Forces of the country - Head of the Operations Directorate.
In December 1971 - August 1983 - Chief of Staff - First Deputy Commander of the Order of Lenin of the Moscow Air Defense District . In the entire history of the district, he held this position longer than all the other chiefs of staff.
Since 1983, Artillery Lieutenant General N.P. Milchenko - retired.
After leaving the Armed Forces since February 1984, he worked at the Voskhod Research Institute: as deputy director for special topics (1984-1988), deputy director for social development of the institute (since March 1988).
