Agios Dimitrios [3] ( Greek Άγιος Δημήτριος [2] ) is a city in Greece , the southern suburbs of Athens . Located at an altitude of 60 meters above sea level [1] , on the Athenian Plain , 5 kilometers south of the center of Athens. The administrative center of the community of the same name in the peripheral unit of South Athens in the periphery of Attica . The population is 71,294 residents according to the 2011 census [2] . Area - 4.949 square kilometers [1] . Density - 14 405.74 people per square kilometer [2] . In the 2014 local elections, Maria Andrutu ( Μαρία Ανδρούτσου ) was elected as the archimandrite.

The city is crossed by the Picrodafni River. Along the eastern outskirts of the city is Vouliagmenis Avenue . There are three Athens metro stations in the city: Daphne , "Agios-Dimitrios-Alexandros-Panagulis" and Ilyupoli-Grigoris-Lambrakis .
Until 1928 ( ΦΕΚ 156Α ) it was called Brahami ( Μπραχάμι ) [4] . The Brahami community was created in 1925 ( ΦΕΚ 48Α ), in 1943 ( ΦΕΚ 22Α ) the Agios Dimitrios community was created, in 1947 ( ΦΕΚ 199Α ) a new Agios Dimitrios community was created [5] . In 1963 ( ΦΕΚ 45Α ), the new Agios Dimitrios community was created [6] .
During the Ottoman rule, the region was the chief of the Brahami belonging to the Turkish Pasha Braham. After the Greek Revolution, the population of Brahami was 7 people [7] . The city received the name Agios Dimitrios from the Church of St. Demetrius.
